EPF (Employee Provident Fund) is a government-regulated fund helping employees across the country to create a savings fund which can provide for their future requirements like marriage, children’s education, retirement, etc. As per the EPF rules, the employer deducts a fixed percentage of the employee’s basic salary to deposit in the EPF Account and the employer is also required to contribute equal amount to deposit in the employee’s EPF Account. If you are an employee having an EPF Account in which your employer is depositing the EPF amount every month, you would surely want to check EPF Balance of your EPF Account.

1. Know your EPF Balance Online using EPFO Portal

It is possible to know your EPF Balance online by visiting the EPFO website. You can visit the EPFO Portal by clicking on the url: https://epfindia.gov.in

Minimum requirements to check your EPF Balance online using EPFO Portal

To check your EPF Balance using EPFO Portal, you should fulfil the below requirements:

  1. You should have a UAN (Universal Account Number) of your EPF Account. If you don’t have UAN, learn how to register UAN Number.
  2. The UAN must be activated. If you haven’t activated your UAN yet, learn how to activate your UAN.

Steps to check balance of your EPF Account on EPFO Portal

  1. Visit the EPFO Portal by clicking here – https://epfindia.gov.in
  2. You will find “Our Services” in the Navigation Menu. Click on it.
  3. On clicking “Our Services”, a dropdown menu will open with various options. Click on the “For Employees” option.
  4. Now, click on the “Member Passbook” option provided in the “Services” section of the page.
  5. The Login Page will open. You should enter your UAN and the Password to login to the EPFO Portal.
  6. After logging in, you will find the option “View Passbook”. Below the “View Passbook” option, you will find a button with PF Account Number. Click on that button to open your EPF Passbook. Please note that you will be able to access the EPF Passbook only after a waiting period of 6 hours from the time of UAN Registration.

2. Know your EPF Balance through SMS

You can check your EPF Balance using the SMS facility provided by EPFO. Let’s see how can we find our EPF Balance through SMS.

Minimum requirements to check your EPF Balance using SMS facility.

  1. You should have a UAN (Universal Account Number) of your EPF Account. If you don’t have UAN, learn how to register UAN Number.
  2. The UAN must be activated. If you haven’t activated your UAN yet, learn how to activate your UAN.
  3. The eKYC of your EPF Account must be completed. The eKYC process requires your EPF Account to be updated with your Aadhaar Number, PAN Number and your Bank Account. Learn how to update your KYC of your EPF Account.
